John Nicoll a life in photos (1925 - 2020)
from age 7 to 95, John painted
Born on 13th August 1925 in Edinburgh, Scotland, John was the eldest of 4 children.
He enjoyed art from a young age and found he could draw from life, sketching nature accurately.
He was encouraged and inspired by his art teacher and won the school drawing prize in 1940.
He joined the RAF in 1943, then the Intelligence Corps, during which time he decided to become a full time artist.
He attended Dundee College of Art, won a travelling art scolourship around Europe, then moved to London in 1953.
He met Linden in 1959, married in 1960 and lived in Kent before settling in Highgate, London and raising 2 daughters.
They lived there for 42 years, for 35 of those, John taught life classes, meanwhile painting and drawing 365 days a year.
Linden died in 2007 and in 2012 John moved to Wiltshire, near his daughter and 2 grandchildren. He died on 6th April 2020.
